Coggins Test (EIA)
A coggins test is carried out to identify the presence of antibodies in the horse’s blood against the Equine Infectious Anemia virus. Biting flies transmits this virus and there is no cure or treatment for this disease. A coggins test is good for a year and is required for most horse shows, boarding facilities, and interstate travel. We also offer STAT coggins (ELISA) for an additional fee and are back in 24 hours.
Health certificates are needed for interstate transportation and are good for 30 days. If you are traveling out of the state, you will need one. Don’t forget, Florida is now requiring the dates of your last flu/rhino vaccination and it must be within the last 6 months.
Fecal Egg Count
Complete Blood Count
A CBC and chemistry profile is routine blood work that is another tool for monitoring your horse’s overall health. The CBC is used to identify any signs of anemia, infection, or inflammatory disease. The chemistry profile is an indicator of organ function. It measures the enzymes and electrolytes in the blood and then compared to a standardized range.
